Congratulations goes out to all the athletes in football, cross country and volleyball!
We are in the middle of homecoming week and athletics are a part of that celebration. Middle school football and high school volleyball have already played their games this week. But there are plenty of other games to see.
The cross country teams have been running well and staying healthy. They ran against a whole slew of teams at the meet in Cortez last week, and will go to an invitational meet in Monte Vista and then a regional meet in Delta.
The middle school football team is coming back and looking good.
Athletics provide great activities for students. It gives them goals to set and achieve, it gives them personal and academic discipline, and athletics gives them much-needed physical training. They learn to work with others on a team and they make life-long friends! The coaches come away with experience in the athletics and the rewards of knowing that they are influencing lives.
There is a particular glow that a student gets when they know that they are being seen as they do their best in their chosen sport. Whether its their parent, their friend, or anyone from the community, an athlete is going to try their very best when they know they will get a rousing round of applause afterwards!
Dont miss the homecoming parade at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon and the football game this Friday at 7 p.m., when the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at half time. A tailgate party is at 5:30 p.m.
