The hood
Its defined as a group of people living together in one place or all the people living in a particular area or place. The residents of Mancos have considered themselves a community for a long time. We do things as a community, set up events as a community and attend those events ... as a community.
A community, most of the time, shares common values, help each other out, and knows each others needs. And there are some people, within the community, who dont wish to share, help, or receive help. They are still part of that community. albeit a silent part.
There are online communities, too. Since the advent of the Internet, virtual communities are possible through social networking and other websites.
Rural, urban, sports, social, professional, retirement and groups that have a common goal or purpose are all types of communities.
The beauty of community is that its voluntary. One does not have to participate in all community functions. But when one needs to have that familiarity ... that sharing ... that friendship, its there. Some people need other people more often, and thats when community is a desired dynamic.
Whether we work hard at putting together community events, attend those events, or just live within that community, we all can say Im a part of that community.
