La Plata Quilters Guild celebrates 30 years of artistry, philanthropy

For 30 years, guild’s creativity, philanthropy a source of comfort
Patty Joy, left, curator of the La Plata Quilters Guild exhibit at the Animas Museum, and Holli Pfau, coordinator of the guild’s 30th and Thriving Celebration, talk about some of the quilts displayed at the museum.
Past La Plata Quilters Guild President Noel Tambre’s thank-you quilt, in a Tumbling T’s pattern, is on display in the 30th and Thriving Celebration show featuring work by guild members at the Animas Museum. After Tambre picked her color scheme and pattern, individual members each made a block that the outgoing president then sewed together and quilted.
A quilt made by Barb Morgan, in a pattern called Sunset Diamond Day Trip, is on display in the 30th and Thriving Celebration show of the La Plata Quilters Guild at the Animas Museum. Morgan has won several best-in-show awards at the 2003 La Plata County Fair and had more than one quilt selected for national juried shows.
Holli Pfau, coordinator of the 30th and Thriving Celebration of the La Plata Quilters Guild, describes how she made one of her Gold Star Mother’s quilts that she has on display at an Animas Museum show commemorating the anniversary.
A history wall is part of the 30th and Thriving Celebration of the La Plata Quilters Guild at the Animas Museum exhibit running through July 13. It documents highlights, philanthropy and artistry over three decades.
