Weekend wildfire contained in Durango Hills subdivision

Firefighters contained a wildfire in Durango Hills subdivision on Saturday.
The fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday, and emergency responders were told that a vehicle was on fire, had been evacuated and was unoccupied.
At about 4:10 p.m., it was reported on the scanner that there had been several small explosions and the fire had moved about 20 feet up the hill.
“Popping sounds in a car fire are normal,” said Capt. Lou Vito, who was acting battalion shift at the time. The fire spread to a tree and the area surrounding it, about 15 feet by 20 feet in area.
The Durango Hills subdivision is north of Edgemont Highlands. The fire as located on Nusbaum Road about 1 mile off Florida Road (County Road 240).
Containment means a defensible line has been built around the fire, but firefighters still are on scene working the fire.
There has been no information about what may have happened to set the vehicle on fire.
