Learn about sustainable agriculture practices during the Colorado Permaculture Convergence in the Four Corners May 23 and 24.
The event takes place at the Hananiah Rest Ranch, located at 10501 County Road 20, Cortez.
Owners Grant and Kathy Curry of the Permaculture Provision Project are hosting the event, which for the first time is being held away from the Front Range.
“We have some remarkable presentations from experts and a lot of workshops, demonstrations, and seminars,” said Grant Curry.
The Currys have embraced the doctrine of permaculture, which uses earthwork features to store water deep in the ground in order to produce a variety of food year round.
There will be classes and presentations on permaculture, drip irrigation, water economics, silviculture, grafting, mushroom cultivation, rocket mass heaters, tiny homes, marijuana cultivation, and composting.
Other intriguing classes include the Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project, eco-social education, bee-inspired community gardens, wild foraging, and herbicide remediation with mushrooms.
Films and documentaries about permaculture will be shown, including Adventures in Permaculture: Australia.
Speeches will be given on the worldwide water crisis, the Turtle Lake Refuge, and large-scale land restoration.
There will be locally made food, roundtable discussions, live music, and dancing under the crescent moon. Blue Coyote and The Wandering Minstrel will perform live music. Camping will be available.
“Learn from the foremost experts in permaculture and our plans to turn the Four Corners into an oasis of abundance,” Curry said.
A bonus event on Memorial Day, involves a summit by members of local tribes to discuss permaculture possibilities on reservations.
