Shop with a Cop

Officer Brandon Gunderson helps Alexander Diggs pick out toys during the Shop with a Cop program, sponsored by the Montezuma-Cortez High School student council, Friday. The students raised $1,500 for the program, and Cortez Retail Association donated $500 so 19 children had $100 of Cortez Cash each to spend. Walmart gave a 30 percent discount for the children. The student council cooked and served breakfast for the kids and their parents and the police. Fifteen law enforcement officers participated, representing Cortez Police, Mancos Marshal, Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office, National Parks Service-Mesa Verde, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land management and Colorado State Patrol.
