Sewing for peace

Sewing for peace

Cortez Quilt Co. recently participated in the Bernina national “Give and Get Back” program during which individuals who donated an old sewing machine received a discount on a new one. The sewing machines were then repaired and donated by the quilt shop to the Renew/WINGS Safehouse, a local nonprofit organization that provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The intent of the donation is to offer an opportunity for relaxation and creativity to women while they are staying at the safehouse. Pictured with some of the donated machines are Safehouse Manager ArDella Martinez and Karen Childress, owner of Cortez Quilt Co.
