Rena Gagneaux is dwarfed by the 14 foot agave plant in her front yard. The ornamental agave is also known as the century plant because it takes so long to bloom. It takes about 15 years, not 100, for the center stalk to shoot up and bloom, sometimes reaching 40 feet high. Gagneaux bought the plant about 10 years ago. The ornamental version of the agave is not used to make tequila.
