Panthers soccer loses to Durango

The Durango High School girls soccer team seemed determined not to let history repeat against the Panthers on Thursday in Durango.
DHS (4-3-2, 3-3-2 Southwestern League) didn't take long to score against Montezuma-Cortez (2-7-2, 1-6-1 SWL), going up 2-0 at halftime and winning by the same score Thursday at the Riverview Sports Complex.
“It was a good feeling not to have a letdown. We felt like when we played them the first time, we had 30 shots on goal and couldn't score,” Durango head coach Dalon Parker said.
Lauran Morrissey scored the first goal for the Demons, and Amelia Wigton scored again just five minutes later.
Montezuma-Cortez had its best chance to score in the final 10 minutes of the first half, but the Demons thwarted any threat.
Durango goalie Kelly Perry made six saves in the win.
