Pet of the Week

Pet of the Week

“Rocky” is a senior adult male in need of some love and kindness, because things have been rocky for this boy so far. Found stray on Hwy. 160 near the Mesa Verde off-ramp on Oct. 8, this sweetie was an abused dog. He needs an understanding adopter willing to give him time to feel safe again. He is fearful, but when taken outside on a leash, you can see Rocky’s whole demeanor change — he relaxes and immediately becomes joyous and happy. He is gentle with kids, good with most other dogs (especially females, as he is a bit dominant) and ok with cats. He loves to play in the yard, and plays tag. Rocky is a mixture of lots of breeds; he’s got classic black-and-tan Rottweiler coloring, and some Pit. He looks intimidating, but he is not aggressive. He’s cute and sort of funny looking, with a big head, small ears, short, stubby legs and big, out-turned feet. Due to his past, this boy prefers women, and would be a great companion to an older female owner. He is very strong on a leash, but this proud dog is ready to retire. Rescues have passed him by — his only chance is adoption; and Rocky deserves that chance to finally have a happy life, free from beatings. The shelter also has some beautiful cats and kittens that will soon be old enough for a home. The shelter is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on alternate Fridays; they will be closed this Friday, and are closed today for the holiday. The adoption fee for pets includes spaying or neutering, vaccination and microchipping. For more information, call the shelter at 565-4910.
