Rossettie (Rose) Phipps

Rossettie (Rose) Phipps, 94, of Amarillo, Texas, and a former resident of Cortez, passed away Aug. 30, 2012. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 1 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Amarillo, with Elder Don Martin of Corinth Primitive Baptist Church of Tulia, Texas, and Elder Cleveland Bass of Primitive Baptist Church of Cortez, officiating. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Rossettie was born June 20, 1918, in Taylor County, Ky. She was a devoted wife and mother. Rossettie loved her family and her church. Her yard and flowers were of much delight to her. Rossettie kept a tidy, loving home. She spent many hours embroidering and piecing beautiful family heirloom quilts. Rossettie will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Spurgeon Phipps; son, Paul Sneed; daughter, Pearl Johnston, and her parents, Alonzo and Julia Ann Darnell.

Rossettie is survived by one daughter, Mildred Riggs and husband H.R. “Jake” of Amarillo; three sons, Phil Phipps and wife Brenda of Hereford, Texas, Lynn Phipps and wife Janet of Muskogee, Okla. and Tex Phipps and wife Judy of Belton, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; multiple great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

The family suggests memorials be sent in lieu of flowers to BSA Hospice, 600 N. Tyler, Amarillo, TX 79107.
