Kittens are taking over the earth — or, the Cortez Animal Shelter, at least. It’s a kitten invasion, and there are many extremely cute candidates of all colors, patterns, and shapes. You can’t go wrong with this lot, including this orange and white baby who is shown taking a break from splashing in the sink. They’re all about 8 weeks old, and ready to show a toy or your shoelaces exactly who’s boss. Lucky for humans that kittens love people! Let one (or more) of these adorable sweeties take you prisoner. You won’t regret it. Also available is former Pet of the Week, the delightful gray and white kitty Smoky, as well as four other wonderful and affectionate adult cats that are down on their luck, including one big, brawny de-clawed boy who gives kisses. They really need a chance. The shelter is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on alternate Fridays. They will be open this Friday. Right now, the shelter desperately needs scented bleach and large size rawhide chews. They also need Purina or Iams kitten food, Purina puppy chow, liquid laundry soap, and non-clumping style cat litter. Ask how you can be a shelter volunteer even for just one hour a week. For more information, call the shelter at 565-4910. To view more animals, visit www.petfinder.com (enter 81321 zip code) or www. cityofcortez.com/government/animal_shelter.
