Lewis Dar Moore
Funeral services for former area resident Lewis “Dar” Moore will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, at the Mancos First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Visitation has been scheduled for Thursday morning beginning at 9 a.m. at the church.
Dar was born Feb. 2, 1931, in Fort Collins, Colo. He died June 9, 2012, in Rio Rancho, N.M. He was 81 years old.
Dar married Eileen “Ikie” Robbins on Sept. 17, 1950, in Durango. They lived in Flora Vista, N.M. before moving to Gallup, N.M. in 1961. Dar worked as a plumber for Lewis Brothers Plumbing and Heating and after 42 years in Gallup, he and Ikie settled in Rio Rancho.
Dar loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an active square dancer as a member of the Red Rock Ramblers. Dar was a member of the New Mexico Plumbing and Pipes Union 412, a past member of the Gallup Lions Club, involved in Boy Scouts for many years and drove a bus for the First Baptist Church in Gallup.
Dar was preceded in death by his father, Henry F. Moore; his mother, Maude Vivian Southworth; his siblings, Helen Bockman, Ruth Helger, Martha Becker, Ester Wagner, Mildred Gosonell, Henrietta Shumway, Marvin Moore and Melvin Moore; and by his grandson, Doyle Dean Moore.
Dar is survived by his loving wife, Eileen “Ikie” Moore; his children Doyle Moore of Rio Rancho, Dwight Moore of Raton, N.M., Lois Hubbard of Gallup, Dennis Moore of Rio Rancho and Joyce Baiett of Rio Rancho; and 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
