Fires, election, schools, crime highlight the year in review
The historic Hollywood Bar in Dolores was destroyed by fire in August. An arson investigation is continuing. An art studio was also destroyed.
A tower of flames mushroomed from the trees on the hillside of East Springs Subdivision as the Weber Fire took off in late June.
Will Furse, pictured with supporter Sharon King, won the closely contested race for DA in the 22nd Judicial District. When the recount was over, Furse had defeated incumbent Russell Wasley by 19 votes.
School District Superintendent Alex Carter celebrated with fellow supporters when voters passed the 3B bond issue in November. The voter approval means a new high school will be built in Cortez.
Larry Don Suckla and Keenan Ertel were elected to the Montezuma County Commission Board in 2012.
