Election is coming up fast

Mail-in ballots going out Oct. 15; still time to register to vote
Commissioners candidate forum is Tuesday

All three District 3 Montezuma County commissioner candidates plan on attending a candidate forum on Tuesday.
Included will be Republican nominee Dewayne Findley and independents Larry Don Suckla and Greg Kemp.
The forum will be held at the Vista Mesa Nursing Home, 1206 N. Mildred Rd., at 2 p.m. The League of Women Voters is sponsoring the forum, along with two others.
The commissioner race is the only local contested race in this year’s general election.
The additional candidate forums will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Empire Electric’s Calvin Denton Room and on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the same location, 801 N. Broadway, Cortez.

Important dates
Tuesday, Oct. 9: Last day to register to vote for the general election.
Monday, Oct. 15: First day mail-in ballots may be sent to voters, except for uniformed, overseas absentee voters.
Monday, Oct. 22: Early voting begins at the early voters’ polling place for the general election.
Tuesday, Oct. 30: Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot for the general election if mailed.
Friday, Nov. 2: Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot for the general election if picked up at the county clerk’s office. Last day for early voting at the early voting polling places for the general election.
Tuesday, Nov. 6: General election. (Polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
